Dave Elliott has been wreck fishing the English Channel out of Newhaven for over 25 years. My first fishing boat was 'Ocean Warrior', which was a 31ft Mitchell with a single 120hp engine. I then upgraded to 'Ocean Warrior 2', which was an Aquastar 33 with twin engines, this is when I started chartering in the 1990's.

I enjoyed fishing the offshore wrecks off of Newhaven so much I decided to make it a business instead of just for pleasure. I wanted to be able to share my knowledge with anglers about the deep water wrecks and the joy of fishing them.

We now have 'Ocean Warrior 3', which is an Aquastar 38 with twin engines; this gives me the ability to get anglers out to the deep water wrecks in the English Channel off Newhaven, Eastbourne and Brighton areas. This gives us additional speed and comfort while travelling out to the wrecks.

There are thousands of wrecks in the English Channel off the Sussex coast; submarines, planes and also coasters. My favourite wreck is two big ships that collided and sunk together, making one big wreck. The deepest wrecks we fish are at approximately 200ft deep.

There are many ways of fishing on the deep wrecks lying in the English Channel, the most popular being 'gilling'. Anglers enjoy catching Cod and Pollack this way and we drift over the shipwrecks using 'lures and pirks'. Another way is to anchor the boat up tide of the wreckage and fish baits, such as; cuttlefish for Cod and Mackerel flapper baits for Conger, Pollack and Bass.

It depends on the strength of the tide whether you can anchor or not. You really need a small ebb tide for anchoring as you can use less lead to hold the bait on the sea bed. These days a lot of anglers use braided line to cut the tide especially on the deep water wrecks.

Each skipper will have their favourite wrecks in the English Channel they have preferred to fish on over the years, but are always willing to try new ones to catch those big fish! I still enjoy meeting new anglers from beginners to experienced fisherman to take them out deep sea wreck fishing, to share the enjoyment and pleasure of this type of angling.

In 2017, the boat was moved to Brighton marina.
